My dad wakes me up and says, hey how much do wireless routers cost? Groggy, I mutter, "Hwhat?" He rolls his eyes and repeats the question. I finally get out a "Umm, I dunno, 40 or 50 bucks?" He says, ok, get dressed, you're coming with me.
Turns out my dad had a friend/ potential client who just got a new laptop. He wasn't too computer savvy, so my dad offered to buy him a wireless router and show him how to use it. A little bit of the "I scratch your back, and you let me sell your home".
Me: "Ahh, so you want me to set up his wireless router!"
Pop: "No, I'm gonna set up his router"
Me: "Then why am I coming with you?"
Pop: "Just in case something goes wrong"
Haha, so I was the backup plan. He wanted to demonstrate his technical prowess. He succeeded too. I didn't have anything to do, so I offered to clean his desktop, which his kids had completely infested with spyware, popups and viruses. It was literally probably the "dirtiest" computer I had ever seen in my life.
So, mission accomplished. My dad cemented a relationship, snuck in some business, and his buddy got 2 working computers out of it. To celebrate, we picked up Rock Band for my dad's PS2. Everybody wins!
