Anthropology lesson

I've been reading some pickup stuff, and they posit that the anxiety that most guys suffer from when approaching girls actually has an anthropological basis. Supposedly, it's much more than just simple fear of rejection.

I can't vouch for the veracity of their explanation but I read that back in caveman times, people lived in tribes of 40 or smaller. So at any given time, there are only maybe 1 to 3 eligible bachelorettes in the group. If a single caveman made a move and got shot down, her spurned girlfriends would probably also blow him off.

So, if he stayed in the group, he would never mate, and his bloodline would die. His only other option would be to leave the safety of the tribe, and wander the land finding a new tribe that would welcome a reject like him. So if caveman Romeo doesn't have game, he is doomed to genetic death or being cast out into the wilderness. Thus it's much safer for him to just keep his mouth shut. Supposedly this anxiety has been passed down through the ages in the form of an irrational phobia of approaching women. Heh, fascinating :)
