Checking out, sir?

Today is the point of no return. I do a little bit more vacuuming. Donate everything I haven't packed or given away. I leave my keys on the table for Van. Take a last look around, take a deep breath, and roll my 4 bags out of the apartment. I suddenly realized: Crap! I'll need the apt key to lock the door. Oh well, I'll have to mail it back from Hawaii. But I leave the front door and mail keys behind.

I'm taking the maximum amount of stuff on the plane. I was hoping I could just cram everything into my car, but it turns out you're not allowed to load any personal items when you're shipping a car. So, after mailing two big boxes of stuff, I'm checking in a computer box and a heavy suitcase, and carrying on a lighter suitcase and a laptop bag as my personal item. I was lost in logistical reverie as I loading up my car when I suddenly realized: CRAP! I left 2 pieces of luggage in the apartment lobby... and I no longer had the key to get in!!!!

I was kicking myself so bad. I could see my stuff through the glass side panel. Panic creeped up on me, but only for a second. I realized someone had to come in or out eventually, so my worst case scenario was I'd be hanging out on the front doorstep for a few hours. Luckily the residence manager was hiding in her office and came out when I knocked on her window. Phew, disaster averted.

Next step. I drove to Soaps's work and transferred my stuff to her car. She had VERY graciously offered to help me get to the airport in one piece. I chuckled because every time I'd seen her, she was driving a different car. So sassy. From there, I drove to the Matson pier and surrendered my car and waited for Soaps to get off work. While I was there, the Matson guy told me all about the best places in the world to snorkel. The "fishbowl" in Maui is apparently one of them.

So with no car, I'm officially at Soaps's mercy. We go grab some early dinner (and buy some chocolate covered gummies) at the Japanese mall, then she takes me to her school and I just chrono while she's at class. I'm actually really productive and am a little disappointed when she tells me class is over. That night, she makes me a steak dinner. Wow. Thank you for all your help, Soaps. I don't know what I would have done without you.
