It's been about a month, so I go get pho with V again. Same place, I think we both even ordered the same thing. Looks like I'm starting to build some routines in my new city :)
She asks if I'm up to anything that night. I always have something I could be doing, but adventure intrigues me. And that's how I ended up attending a Seattle University Alumni party, partaking of their wine and hors d'oeuvres. We listened to a few speeches, but V and I spent most of the night having a lovely conversation with Bob, an gentleman and his wife.
Although probably 35 years my senior, Bob and I bonded a bit because we were both part Filipino. We talked about the common hapa issue of being stuck between cultures. Neither of us looks like a "typical" filipino, but there's no way we'd be mistaken for white. He had since gone to great lengths to connect to his Flip heritage and invited me to get involved in a local Filipino-American poetry/ spoken word/ comedy show he helped organize. V later teased me for getting a guy's number. I told her I was gonna use it. This might be my best chance to locate and infiltrate the community I'm supposed to belong to.
From there, we tempted fate and grabbed a burger at Dante's. Luckily she survived this one.
